Reflections on Turning 21

It’s been 21 years. 7671 days.

That’s a long time… but somewhat short as well.

As most people, the last 4 years have flown by for me – I hardly even went to school in those 2 years of college, but I did get to live in 3 different countries and work over half a dozen different jobs after school. I met so many incredible people, learned languages, experienced loss, grief, shame, peace, love, and so many more emotions that I had missed out on during my teenage years.

So many things changed, and some things returned to what they used to be. It’s comical the irony of events in our lives, almost as if God is putting us back in certain positions and humbling us by imposing certain life lessons.

This past year in particular has been very important in finding my trajectory and making sense of what I truly want as a human, and what I desire as an individual. And not only did I get to figure out so much stuff, but I also got to put a lot into practice.

My top 4 lessons that I learned at the age of 20 were:

  • No amount of thinking can outproduce practice, be uncomfortable.
  • You can achieve anything, if you make the intention and work for it.
  • Networking will get you anything and everything – it’s an unfair advantage.
  • Things will flow in your favour if you let them, but be patient.

It has been an eye-opening year for me, and I hope and pray that the growth I have experienced only becomes exponential.
